AirGap adds support for tzBTC and FA 1.2

AirGap Vault and Wallet v3.1 bring support for the new asset tzBTC and for the Tezos FA 1.2 asset standard. tzBTC delivers the power of Bitcoin as a token on the Tezos blockchain.

tzBTC is the first token on the Tezos blockchain backed by another asset and delivers the power of Bitcoin as a token on the Tezos blockchain. With tzBTC Tezos-based applications become enabled to use BTC with the full expressivity of Tezos smart contracts. tzBTC is implemented using the FA 1.2 asset standard on Tezos.

tzBTC itself is backed by an Association and its Keyholders and Gatekeepers who ensure the integrity of the tzBTC system.

How to use tzBTC in AirGap

In order to add the tzBTC token to AirGap you need to have a Tezos (XTZ) account in AirGap Wallet. If you are setting up AirGap the first time, you can follow this step by step guide.

1 ¬ Open AirGap Wallet

Open AirGap Wallet and make sure you have a Tezos (XTZ) account, otherwise follow the follow this step by step guide to get to this point.

2 ¬ Add Coins

Select the big floating button with the plus icon to get to the “Add Coins” page. Then look for the tzBTC entry and select it.

3 ¬ Select Accounts

On the “Select Accounts” page select the account you want to add a tzBTC account for or “Import All” to add all of them.

4 ¬ tzBTC Account Added

Voilà that’s it, you have added your tzBTC account to AirGap and are now ready to transact.

5 & 6 ¬ tzBTC Account Details

Select the tzBTC account to view the details. Display the address with “Receive” or copy it to the clipboard with the action in the three dots menu on the top right. Select “Send” if you have tzBTC and want to create a transaction.

What is AirGap?

AirGap has a unique two device approach, where an old or dedicated smartphone becomes your new hardware wallet by installing the AirGap Vault application and taking the device offline. A new secret that has never touched any network will be created and stored in the secure enclave of that device only accessible by biometrics. The companion application AirGap Wallet on the other hand lives on an everyday phone and has access to the internet. Communication between the two devices happens over QR codes.

For smaller funds and better accessibility, both apps can be installed on the everyday phone and still provide added security.
