AirGap MetaMask Integration
Kahlil Gibran once said, If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees. Your wallet is only as secure as your secret. Exposing it to a network can possibly mean exposing yourself to theft.
At AirGap, we understand this basic security principle that is why we’ve developed a software cold wallet solution that meets the highest security standards. Aside from security, we’ve been working hard on usability, integration and interoperability.
Previously, AirGap Vault only supported AirGap Wallet. Most cold wallets, such as Ledger and Trezor, are interoperable with other solutions. Considering the Vault could only be used with the wallet, this imposed some limitations on our users, particularly those who wanted to use the Vault in conjunction with other solutions.
Extending security with interoperability
At AirGap, we care about our users’ security as well as their convenience, which is why we’ve been working hard over the last few months to finally release the MetaMask support feature.
It’s official, AirGap Vault now supports MetaMask. From now on, you can link AirGap Vault to MetaMask to:
- Check your balance for all tokens on Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain.
- Sign transactions on Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain.
- To interact with decentralized applications on Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain.
- Buy, Sell, Mint, and burn collectibles on Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain.
… and everything you were previously permitted to do with MetaMask(aside from message signing, which will be implemented soon), with one major improvement, your private keys stay offline.
What Is MetaMask?
To an average crypto user, MetaMask probably needs no introduction. With over 10M downloads on the chrome web store, It is the most used and popular crypto wallet. It is a non-custodial wallet for accessing EVM-compatible blockchains. It has both the mobile and browser extension version, but this announcement works only with the browser extension (MetaMask mobile support coming soon).
Set up AirGap Vault with MetaMask

There are three simple steps involved:
- Download, Install, and Setup MetaMask
- Connect AirGap Vault to MetaMask (find the guide here)
- Perform a transaction
Voila, you’ve successfully set up your cold wallet with MetaMask.
NOTE: We’ve tested the Vault MetaMask setup with Matic, Avalanche, Celo, Moonriver, Fantom, and Fuse. The Vault works for these blockchains just as it does for BSC and Ethereum.
