AirGap now supports ERC-20 Tokens!
Great news! The community has spoken and we have listened, AirGap now supports ERC-20 Tokens!
Dear crypto community, at AirGap we take user feedback very seriously, that is why we have now listed ERC-20 Tokens on our Wallet! Something many of you was waiting for became reality. There are many of such ERC- 20 contracts out there, we choose the top 100 and added them to our wallet.
What is an ERC-20 token?
The ease at which the ETH blockchain can be used to launch different contracts also caused the initial coin offering boom back in the days.
Instead of creating another blockchain from scratch, many developers decided to use the existing infrastructure available to them as oftentimes it is cheaper to maintain and more reliable. All you need to do is create a smart contract following the ERC-20 standard and you already have your own token. This is also important to note, cryptocurrencies called tokens are usually ERC-20, whereas coins are regarded as their own blockchains such as ETH, BTC, LTC and many more.
The common set of rules developers must incorporate in their smart contract are in simple words the following.
- What is the total Token supply of your token
- How will account balances be shown?
- The ability to transfer the token
- Double-check for the spending of the token
This is to illustrate what such a smart contract needs to include in order to be run on the Ethereum blockchain.
As most of you probably are not very interested in what an ERC-20 Token is but rather knowing if your Token is supported by AirGap you can go and have a look in the App itself.
How to add ERC-20 Tokens to your AirGap wallet
For already existing AirGap users out there this is a short guide on how to find your favourite ERC-20 token on your AirGap waller!
Please bear in mind as ERC-20 Tokens are based on the Ethereum blockchain you will need to create an ETH account first!
A guide on how to add an ERC-20 token to your AirGap Wallet.
- Unlock your phone and head to the AirGap application
- Now click the + button (1)
- Once pressed you will see the full list of both, different coins and ERC-20 Tokens. For the sake of this guide, we’ll be adding BNB to our Wallet (2)
- Once selected, a BNB ‘’account’’ will be displayed (3)
- You are all set up! Now you can send and receive BNB tokens!
