At AirGap, we have always prioritized security without compromising on user experience. Social recovery offers an ingenious way to regain access to your wallet in case you no longer have access to your recovery phrase.
Social Recovery feature quickly explained
With social recovery, users can involve their trusted contacts, such as friends or family members, to collectively recover their wallet. This distributed approach ensures that no single person has full access to your account, mitigating the risk of unauthorized access.
The social recovery feature in AirGap is different from that of Ledger that breaks your seed into pieces and shares them with various parties, who can put it back together after confirming your identity. We do not share the social share with any party as the AirGap Vault is offline. You are responsible for the creation and distribution of your social shares.

Common social recovery setups are a 2-of-3 and a 3-of-5 backup. Which one you choose depends on your preferences. A 2-of-3 backup is easy to set up, but it does leave you vulnerable if 2 contacts collude against you. A 3-of-5 backup is more resilient against this because it requires 3 contacts to collude against you.
