The problem is that seed phrases are often written down on paper or stored in a digital document, which can easily get lost, stolen, hacked, etc. This is where the metal recovery plate comes in. It provides a secure and durable way to store your seed phrase, ensuring it is always available when you need it.
Features and Benefits of the Metal Recovery Plate
The metal recovery plate is made from heavy-duty SAE 304 stainless steel with a melting point of 2550 °F (1450 °C). This means that it can withstand just about anything, including house fires (average is around 600° C) and other disasters. The plate can hold 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24 words, making it suitable for a wide range of BIP39/44 wallet setups, including AirGap, Ledger, and Trezor.
But the metal recovery plate has more to offer than just durability. It is also small and portable, so you can take it with you wherever you go. It is easy to use, with clear, laser-etched letters that are easy to read. And because it is made from stainless steel, it is resistant to water, making it ideal for use in any environment.
We offer two packages for the metal recovery plate:
The Starter Kit
Includes 2 metal plates, 1 engraving pen, and a tamper-proof sticker, 1 instruction document.
Hodler Kit
Includes 6 metal plates, 2 engraving pens, and multiple tamper-proof stickers, 1 instruction document.
Each plate has:
- 24 x slots on each card to engrave or stamp your recovery seed.
- 2x 5.5 mm holes on each card to fit most standard padlocks.
- 1x BIP39 Passphrase slot on each card for additional security
- 1x Slot for Multisig and Shamir / Social Recovery information
We are shipping the plates always in a set of two because our concept is straightforward; We leave it to the receiver if they want to use them separately or if they use the second plate as a cover. If the second plate is used as a cover the users should make sure that the recovery-seed side is facing inwards. They then can secure the plates by using the temper stickers.
Optionally users can secure the plates with screws, cable ties, or padlocks by utilizing the holes on the bottom and the top.
Furthermore, two plates can hold a full Social Recovery Phrase which is 48 words long.
Why we created these plates
We came up with the idea of producing recovery plates because the AirGap community was asking for a recommendation on how they should store their seed. When taking a closer look, we realized that the solutions out there were either too complicated, too expensive, or ineffective. Therefore we decided to create our metallic seed card to serve the community and also others. We wanted to keep the product very simple, affordable, and effective so more people can securely store their seeds.
We checked multiple suppliers and tried various materials and products to come up with the final setup. One of the things we often missed in similar products was a solid engraver that was engraved deep enough. For this, we tried multiple ones, from electronic to manual engravers. And the same was the case for the Tamper seals.
