The crypto starter

Anny is not a technical person and isn’t fully used to the complexities of blockchain technology. She wants something to benefit from in the long run.

Anny’s journey into the crypto world was prompted by the pandemic. She thought about the future and what it holds for her after the pandemic. She believes crypto is the real deal for her since she could be her bank but she is fairly new to the crypto space and wants a clean setup and peace of mind.

She doesn’t want to keep her money on an exchange because in her search, she read about various exchanges being hacked. She discovered that with cold storage wallets she can have full control and absolute security over her funds. This gave her a sense of relief and assurance. She researched the most common cold storage solutions like Trezor ONE or Leder Nano but with USD 65–100 they were expensive and on top of that flimsy to use. This didn’t discourage her but helped broaden her knowledge and understanding.

She discovered AirGap from her search on Reddit. She trusts the AirGap solution because it is secure and a perfect alternative to the hardware wallets because it was available instantly. Lastly, she trusts the solution because the app was developed by a Swiss company.

She now uses AirGap with the one device approach and holds two currencies namely; Tezos and Bitcoin. Quite recently, she started minting and trading NFTs on Tezos and loved the fact that she could view her NFTs directly in her wallet. While using the wallet, she discovered she could stake her coins and earn passive income as staking rewards from it.

The Crypto Enthusiast

Tony is someone that loves new tech and follows up with the latest technology trends. He began his crypto journey in 2018 when he bought his first bitcoin. However, his love for advancement and development in the crypto world made him start researching new projects by studying their whitepapers and investigating their source code. That’s when he stumbled across AirGap, an open-source solution.

For a long time, he used the Ledger as his cold wallet to store his funds. But after the Ledger database breach in 2020 and after he found out that his address was also leaked, he decided to switch to a more inconspicuous solution: AirGap.

Tony uses AirGap with the 2 device approach. To have a secure setup he got himself a brand new Moto E6 for about USD39 (the benefit of this device is the removable battery and the price).

Tony is a huge fan of the AirGap Vault because it’s a multitasker; it is not limited to work only to AirGap Wallet — it enables him to connect the Vault also with MetaMask and other specific Wallets.

One issue he has seen with many other wallets is that they are really dependent on the RNG that comes with the device. As a person that takes security seriously, he loves AirGap because it solves the RNG trust problem by introducing the dice roll/coin flip feature.

Due to his enthusiasm to know more about cryptocurrency and DeFi, he diversifies his currencies on DeFi platforms like youves hence he is exposed to Tezos generic FA2/1.2 tokens. As a measure needed to protect his funds, he added an extra layer of security with a BIP-39 passphrase. Also, he does social recovery with multiple people who he did trust so that in case he loses access to his mnemonic, he could easily recover his wallet.

The Crypto Investor

Evans is an escrow accountant who is managing funds for his clients. He is financially educated, careful with anti-money laundering and KYC issues, and prefers professionalism to memes.

He needed a flexible cold storage wallet to run his business with his clients. Due to recommendations from business partners, he tried Trezor ONE and Ledger but was annoyed by their complications (especially since he has to manage multiple accounts with them) hence switched to the AirGap solution. He has multiple active secrets and prefers using the BIP85 feature because it allows him back up only one mnemonic while having multiple child mnemonic which wouldn’t require him to backup every one of them. He uses the social recovery functionality too together with his clients as a way to add more security to his business.

Recently, he did a client survey and found out that most of them love to HODL bitcoin because they have low trust for altcoins. To make transactions cheaper and seamless for his clients, he sets up a Segwit Bitcoin address on his vault instead of the outdated legacy format. This he loved particularly because it greatly reduced the cost of running his business. His clients have the AirGap Wallet installed on their Android or iOS devices using the watch only mode setup so they can see all transactions as regards their money and this increased their level of trust for the business due to its transparency. Some of them even use the AirGap Wallet as a web version because of the ease of use for them.

He trusts the solution because it is developed by a company based in Switzerland that has 10 plus years of experience in the field of technology and is working hard to provide more amazing features such as BTC multi-sig, BTC taproot, seed XOR which would give additional benefit to him and his clients.
