The new carbon economy is here.

We’re back! And just in time — next week’s Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco will be a showcase of epic proportions. Here’s a slice of what’s been added to AirMiners.org over the past four months.

This month, we’re serving up these eight fresh finds:

  • Product: We’re excited to see a gorgeous batch of building materials and biomaterials companies from around the world, including our first submission from Japan!
  • Capture: Two new incredible atmospheric carbon extraction projects — one celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the other, a design project in the Netherlands and China.
  • Sequestration: This edition focuses on land use. We’re serving up a rock dust company and a great U.S. Department of Agriculture assessment tool called COMET-Farm.

Enjoy!

PRODUCT

Made of Air

Germany

Made of Air is converting greenhouse gases into building materials. Made of Air has invented a material compound composed of up to 90% atmospheric carbon- a solid resulting from greenhouse gases.

Thanks, Allison @ Made of Air!

USA

HelioBioSys uses marine cyanobacteria that grow on air, seawater and sunlight. They produce a variety of complex biopolymers. HelioBioSys has developed cost-effective ways to harvest and process them into concentrated polysaccharides and hydrogels. These sustainably-derived biomaterials have applications in cosmetics, sunscreens and bioplastics.

Japan

As a R&D-focused venture company, UCDI is attempting to solve food security issues by developing and manufacturing feed-use materials (proteins and dietary supplements) from carbon dioxide using sophisticated and innovative biotechnologies.

Thanks for adding, Hana, who wrote this July 2018 article about our work!

USA

Empower Materials Inc. produces the QPAC® line of carbon dioxide-based polymers used for improving manufacturing technologies. The company was founded in 1991 as PAC Polymers Inc. and changed its name in 2001 to reflect its focus on the commercialization of QPAC® for binder applications.

Thanks, Circular Carbon Network

CAPTURE

Oy Hydrocell Ltd

Finland

Hydrocell has launched an innovative and high-quality solution for capturing CO2 contained in ambient air. Known as DAC (Direct Air Capture), this technology can be used in fossil fuel-free energy technology applications such as power to gas (P2G). The DAC unit in the VTT/LUT Soletair project is supplied by Hydrocell.

Thanks, Antti, Jero, and Cyril of Soletair!

The Netherlands

Daan Roosegaarde and his team of experts have created the world’s first smog vacuum cleaner. The 7-meter tall SMOG FREE TOWER uses patented positive ionisation technology to produce smog free air in public spaces, allowing people to breathe and experience clean air for free.

SEQUESTRATION

Plant Nutrition Technologies

USA

Bio-Mineral Soil Reconditioning Products for Sustainable Farming.

Thanks, Dennis and Mark!

USA

COMET-farm is a whole farm and ranch carbon and greenhouse gas accounting system. It is the baselining system for the Nori carbon market.

Thanks, Nori team!
