The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on the 25th May so has recently been a major concern for a lot of app developers. We have updated several of our ANEs to bring you the latest updates for SDKs requiring GDPR changes, including Adverts, Push Notifications, Firebase and Google Analytics.

As part of the GDPR changes we have updated our privacy policy to make the usage of your data on the airnativeextensions.com website more clear. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us.

The major update this month was for Firebase and the supporting Google Play Services client libraries. Firebase ANEs have been updated to v16.0.1 which depends on v15.0.1 of Google Play Services. This update also includes updates to all the Google related ANEs including Google Identity, Native Maps, and Google Analytics.

Android Media Player

We have a major update for the MediaPlayer undergoing final testing and is available in github for anyone interested. This is a complete rewrite of the extension including a major improvement of the Android implementation. We would really welcome any feedback you may have on the beta!

Lastly, you may have been following the Android ANR issue thread, in which some diligent developers have discovered that moving all sound playback to a simple native call resolved the ANRs. We are in progress of simplifying this migration with additions to the Media Player ANE. We hope to have these released later in June.

Adverts

Adverts ANE has been updated to include targeting options for AdMob requests, such as child treatment for COPPA and non-personalised ads for GDPR.

Google Play Services

Google Play Services client libraries have been updated to v15.0.1.

Firebase

Firebase extensions have been updated to v16.0.1 including the latest bug fixes and updates.

Push Notifications

Firebase Cloud Messaging has been updated to v17.0.0 and the OneSignal service has been updated to use FCM and include the latest user consent additions.

Google Analytics

This ANE has been updated to include the latest GDPR additions from Google such as the ability to anonymise the user IP address.
