For new and returning visitors to PEI, the following list provides five of the most popular attractions on the island. So, if you haven’t visited them yet and are looking to broaden your knowledge of all things P.E.I., you’ve gotta check these out.

Anne of Green Gables (Avonlea Village)

Anne of Green Gables is a fictional story written by Lucy Maud Montgomery about the life of a teenage girl named Anne Shirley. Anne is the most beloved fictional character to come out of Prince Edward Island with popularity in continents as far as Asia. L. M. Montgomery lived in Cavendish PE which is what inspired the creation of Avonlea, the village the fictional story takes place in. Today, in Cavendish PE, you can visit the real life, full scale attraction called “Avonlea Village”!

Confederation Bridge

The Confederation Bridge made a huge difference for travelling to and from P.E.I. on May 31, 1997, the day the bridge opened. Prior to its construction, ferries were the only way to traverse the Northumberland Straight waters that separate P.E.I. from the Canadian mainlands. Now, you can enjoy a relaxing drive over the captivating waters that’s faster and cheaper than the ferry. Fun fact: the Confederation Bridge is the longest, in the world, to cross over ice-covered water.

Cavendish

Cavendish has something for everyone as one of P.E.I.’s most popular attractions. Visit Avonlea Village, go golfing at the Green Gables Golf Course, bring the kids to Shining Waters Family Fun Park or take the teenagers to Sandspit for go-karting and other fast rides. The list is endless, relax at the beach, play some glow in the dark mini-putt, or grab a bite to eat at the Cavendish Boardwalk where you can also shop for clothing, beachwear, accessories and more. The area is full of hotels, bed and breakfasts, cottages and campgrounds to suit the needs of any traveller.

PEI National Park

The Gulf of St. Lawrence waters meet the north shore of P.E.I. with waves of delight as visitors walk and swim the shore. This is the P.E.I. National Park, a rich outdoor attraction where you can cycle, hike, camp, picnic, fish, golf paddle, swim, and more.

Confederation Centre of the Arts

The Confederation Centre of the Arts celebrates the birth and development of Canada by inspiring Canadians to see our country from all angles by delivering musical theatre performances, visual arts installations, and interactive experiences. They also have an art gallery, a gift shop and a restaurant. Check their “TICKETS” tab on their website to see what’s playing.

If you’re visiting Prince Edward Island, take in the culture and its best attractions by stopping into one (or all) of these popular sites. Doing so will help you feel like an Honorary Islander in no time, making your stay here one to remember.
