Does the name Anne Shirley ring any bells? It should for anyone who has spent any amount of time in P.E.I. Anne has been entertaining readers since Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908. The book spawned seven more in the series, all of which are a delight for readers of any age. For fans of the series, here is some information about the Anne sites in P.E.I.

The Songs of Anne & Gilbert, The Musical

It’s not only readers who can enjoy all things Anne. Usually, “Anne of Green Gables: The Musical” would be holding performances at this time. Unfortunately, the musical was cancelled for this year. Romance and Anne fans alike fear not; “Anne & Gilbert, The Musical” has been transformed into “The Songs of Anne & Gilbert, The Musical” for this most unusual of seasons. The musical is perfect for anyone who adores the relationship between Anne and Gilbert; specifically from books two and three of the series.

The Anne of Green Gables Store

After attending a performance, audience members need only cross the street to reach The Anne of Green Gables Store. There they will find a whole slew of Anne memorabilia. Whether it’s the books, T-Shirts, or Anne dolls, the store has a large collection of souvenirs that any Anne fan is likely to drool over. There’s a beautiful artificial cherry blossom tree that makes for the perfect place to take a picture, and customers can even try on an Anne costume for the occasion. Fans should also try the raspberry cordial; but sorry, they haven’t confused it with red currant wine like Anne does.

Anne of Green Gables Chocolates

If the sweets and treats at The Anne of Green Gables Store aren’t enough for someone, they can simply walk two stores down to reach Anne of Green Gables Chocolates. There they will find all types of indulgences, for anyone with a sweet tooth. Anne fans will be delighted to find assortments such as the Bosom Buddies box, or the Avonlea Assortment boxes. With multiple locations, there’s no way a visiting Anne fan can miss stopping for these delicious chocolates.

Green Gables Heritage Place

While in Cavendish, Anne fans will no doubt visit the Green Gables Heritage Place. This is the site that inspired the setting of Anne of Green Gables, making it a can’t-miss attraction. Visitors will feel transported into the novel while touring the 19th century farmhouse. They should also be sure to check out the Haunted Wood and Lovers Lane.

L.M. Montgomery’s Cavendish Home

Green Gables Heritage place is not the only location where L.M. Montgomery felt inspired. From the Haunted Wood, fans can simply cross the road to find a trail that leads to her Cavendish home. What makes this site all the more sweet is that it is maintained by some of L.M. Montgomery’s descendants.

L.M. Montgomery’s Birthplace

Next, fans can go way back to the beginning at L.M. Montgomery’s birthplace. They will be transported back to 1874, the year that the author was born. Visitors will also find a replica of her wedding dress, and scrapbooks that give a glimpse into her life.

Bideford Parsonage Museum

While touring L.M. Montgomery’s homes, fans shouldn’t forget about the Bideford Parsonage Museum, where she lived when she was 19. There they can catch one of the weekly lecture series to learn more about the author.

Anne of Green Gables Museum

Finally, avid fans certainly won’t want to miss out on the Anne of Green Gables Museum. There they can take Matthew’s carriage ride past the iconic Lake of Shining Waters, the very lake that Anne is in such awe over. This fanciful ride is operated by Matthew himself, making it even more of a delight.
