Building a Digital Enablement Platform
Airtel on the curve of digitisation, required digital enablement of its customer acquisition and engagement processes, swift applications’ transformations, robust and resilient integrations enabled with 99.99% availability — all this at the scale of 300+ million customers. And with market competition getting tough - business agility, velocity and cost efficiency was the key.
A case study was presented at the prestigious Gartner Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit in Mumbai this March 2019. This case study talks about how Airtel designed and built its core integration and micro-services platform to realize its digital transformation objectives. Built on a strong foundation of a classic ESB implementation, Airtel went ahead to build a futuristic digital enablement platform, that -
- Increases business agility by leveraging centralised, re-usable and pluggable SOA platform complying with TM Forum Business Process and Information Framework standards, thereby enabling the enterprise to quickly deliver strategic transformation programs.
- Empowers digital channels with unified customer view and fault tolerance via a robust presentation micro services layer over and above the core integration platform with built-in caching and resilience.
- Ensures reliability and scalability of enterprise integrations by deploying federated, highly available instances of service and messaging bus; accompanied with end-to-end AI enabled monitoring capabilities with predictive analytics and cognitive capabilities.
- Strengthens security and governance control by implementing API gateway for access controls, enterprise service repository for swift discovery and on-boarding.
- Provides for velocity with a mature agile delivery model, accompanied with standard DevOps practices and automation.
