The Role Of A Wingman

From the early years, we’ve had to rely heavily on hope that the person you want to be with, will see you in a different light someday and will eventually like you. Maybe. For all the other times, unrequited love was evident and there wasn’t much of a story to tell. Fast forward to the early 2000s and we have the rise of a new role played by the closest friends and families.

Enter wingman. Like most references, a wingman is a role that a person takes up when a friend needs support to approach a potential partner. You may have seen it in movies or you might have seen someone fulfil the role in person. The Wingman is a knight in the shadows, the unsung hero or anything that fits the bill, but there’s no denying that a wingman has probably helped many set up their first dates or made you look good among your suitors. Probably Indian families bleakly adopted the role of the wingman even before it was cool. Searching for a suitor and making someone look like an eligible bachelor/bachelorette was never an easy task!

Taking Things Offline

Aisle has been helping members connect online since 2014, now we want to help those who connect online to meet offline. At a time when technology and evolution converge, the role of the wingman may seem like it is slowly fading away but for a good majority of people, the anxiety associated with approaching the opposite gender to ask out on their first date still exists. Dating in the virtual world now brings with it a new set of challenges. Challenges that may act as major hurdles for some, be it approaching someone or figuring out the right time to ask for a date, to eventually asking that person out.

We felt that there wasn’t something that helped our members overcome this — something that would ease the process of online dating and ultimately meeting the date offline. While everyone struggles with finding the right words to approach someone who may seem to be a suitable partner, we’re excited to introduce to you Aisle’s very own Wingman, designed to cut to the chase and help you plan a date.

How It Works

Wingman takes the guess work out of (i) who should ask out (ii) when to ask out, and (iii) where to meet on your first date. Wingman steps in when you are connected with someone on Aisle. To access Wingman, all you have to do is tap the Wingman button on the top right hand-side corner on the chat screen with the connected user. You will be greeted with a brief introduction to the Wingman feature. If you think you’re ready for your first date with the person you are connected to, choose out of the 4 preset options — Coffee, Restaurant, Drinks, Entertainment; that you feel would be the perfect idea for your first date. The chosen date option will remain a secret. Wingman will reveal the date options to the connected members only when both members have chosen their preference for the first date. Once both members have chosen an option, they will receive a notification on their chat screen revealing the options they had chosen to each other. Works well, yes? We can already tell this is going to be exciting for you guys!

We believe that Wingman plays a pivotal role in shaping a radical new change in the era of online dating. While online dating might seem restrictive to some, we’re on our way to make it easier for members on Aisle. The role of the Wingman is simple yet elegant and resourceful. It’s one of the best ways to ask someone out on a date in a playful and non-hostile manner.
