For many children, getting to school isn’t as simple as just hopping on a bus. Around the world, children face various obstacles in getting an education. Whether it involves ziplining down a mountainside, trekking three hours through a forest or wading through a dangerous river, perseverance is the key to getting through these difficult — and sometimes dangerous—commutes.

Here, we’re taking a look at four tedious commutes in different parts of the world: Colombia, the Philippines, South Africa and India.
