Why We Need KPI?

Challenge: Not every staff, understand what is the company goal. They confuse what they need to do to help us achieve the goal? How does it relate to their daily job.

How? Company goal is a long term direction, not everyone able to comprehend that. I work with every team lead, to come out with team based KPI. Team based KPI will be serve as a direction to every staff, every team. It is something

a) They understand

b) Measurable

c) Accountable

We want every team understand the KPI, it is something accountable. If they hit the KPI, we will reward them. If they do not hit the KPI, continuous few months, it will impact their performance evaluation. Then we provide every team freedom, to explore their own method, own idea to achieve the target. We will support them in term of resources, tools. But we need them to understand, they are accountable for it, whether when it is achieve, or not achieve. They should take responsibility for it.

Why? We need a direction. We have define our direction, but it will be too high level for staff to understand, especially the junior staff. But if we do not define direction, we will be wasting time moving left and right, and not moving to the right goal. KPI will serve as their direction for their daily task. It is something they understand, something they work towards to achieve and something they should accountable for.
