There is a saying in Africa, “ If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”

Escaping from our work weeks on a trip with friends sounds exciting for everyone, planning it with them does not!

It’s a pain, from creating a group to splitting the bills at the end. It gets tricky to make a decision without hurting anyone’s feelings and also considering everyone’s input.

Me and My friend Giri Prasad, saw a problem which we faced and started working towards a solution, to better the planning experience making everyone feel heard and happy.

Hoguva is a travel planning application for a group of friends, which offers a platform for friends to plan their trips better.

Information Architecture :

Borrowing insights from the pain points, we decided to look at this chaos from a new perspective with a clarity of categorizing the information considered in planning a trip.

After segregating the above chaotic bits of information, a simplified stages of planning was ideated for the problem.

User actions were backtracked from a real world scenario of planning a trip and then ideated towards building a digital application’s architecture. This led us think on the lines of application’s working strategy.

Concept :

Before we set out to design screens, a identity needed to be established. Name of the app was chosen and finalised over a coffee break but the logo took a good amount of ideation.

Hoguva is about infinite discussion about travel planning.

Hoguva in kannada means : Let’s go.

It was perfect for people who spoke the language, and catchy enough for those who don’t.

Hoguva in a nutshell :

The app would have 2 sides.

  1. Chatting: where users can have a group chat with their friends about their travel plans.
  2. Planning: where users can plan by defining, discovering and deciding about the journey.

At every stage of interface design, we wanted to bring out something fresh way of interaction for the users. More contextual interaction patterns were designed as solutions.
