Healthcare, in particular, is the most talked-about industry this year, considering the current pandemic which has claimed more than 210,000 lives. More than ever, the healthcare industry needs help from technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI). No doubt, AI has been a part of the fitness industry for quite a while now in the form of wearables like fitness watches. Machine Learning, along with artificial intelligence moving forward, can play a major role in improving the accessibility of acute medical care. Here are some of the areas where the implementation of AI can prove beneficial:

· Personalized healthcare. Artificial Intelligence can be used to give insights to the patients. There are a lot of times when a patient is unaware of the critical details of their condition, AI can provide the necessary advice, especially in between the doctor’s appointment.

· Diagnoses. When it comes to diagnostics, AI can help healthcare givers enhance the accuracy of their diagnoses. Processes like going into details about illness, developing treatments for it or even making health predictions can be faster with the help of technology.

· Predictions. With artificial intelligence, it is possible to analyze tons of data in no time. Moreover, the technology may also predict the location, spread, or the timing of epidemic/pandemic in times to come.

· Surgery. Robots empowered with AI technology have also started to be used in the surgeries. Covid-19, which is a disease that even spreads from human touch is proving to be dangerous for healthcare workers. In such cases (or even otherwise) robots can perform the surgeries. Robots can swiftly analyze the medical reports and then can aid the medical staff in surgeries. AI will also come in handy in these pandemics where the healthcare workers have to be on duty round the clock.

Apart from that, one section in healthcare where AI can play a crucial role is Tele-medicine, where the technology can remotely diagnose and begin the treatment of patients via telecommunication and information technology. In countries like India, Bangladesh, or even Africa where there is a vast urban-rural divide, Tele-medicine can prove to be an effective solution to reach the remotest areas with the help of internet.

With the increased penetration of smartphones, specialized diagnostic solutions can be provided through mobile phones for the convenience of doctors and patients. AI is not going to replace doctors but will be an ideal middle layer to bridge the demand and supply gap between patients and doctors.

The diversity and potential scale of the world healthcare system affords an opportunity and incentives like no other to pilot and operationalize innovations. Healthcare provides opportunities for AI innovations rather than merely providing a field where existing AI technology can be applied.
