So, all actively engaged Nigerians know that everybody belongs to a club or gang of some sorts. I don’t mean clubs like we have meetings, discuss the future of Nigeria and how we can be better people in life. I mean fictional clubs where we don’t have meeting or hold special events but we are active members of the club. We designate our own leaders and everyone is a leader.

If you’re not Nigerian or you haven’t lived in Nigeria for at least 5 years, you’re probably really lost and confused. But I’m going to try my possible best to explain it to you.

When Nigerians get a new device or new clothing that is probably in vogue, we tend to almost always say “Welcome to the club” or “You’ve joined bad gang”.

The bad gang in question is a fictional cult and doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a bad person (depending on the context of the message).

We literally have a song for everything. You should check this one out though, it’s really catchy.

This works efficiently well for mostly devices and less for clothing. And when I say we have are all leaders of that club, I mean WE sometimes tend to say things like “Ahn-ahn, bad guy. You have a new iPhone. You have joined bad gang.”

For any one that seems to be lost, Ahn-Ahn, bad guy is our way of saying “Congratulations”.

Sometimes, we go as far as declaring them the new President or head of the club in one way or the other.

For anyone who’s not Nigerian, this doesn’t always happen so don’t expect to come to Nigeria to see the sights and expect them to say things like that to you. You need to have had a really close relationship before we can show you that side of us. We need to consider you as our “G’s” before we let loose like that around you.

This happens a lot with Apple devices especially when you are in a closely related environment like a school. This is because all Apple devices have a higher price range compared to the traditional Samsung phones or HP laptops which tend to be common among a lot of people.

Apple devices tend to have a preference among users because of their operating systems and the accolade associated with these devices. Some other people on the other hand prefer the diversity of Android or Windows devices as the case may be.

I took it upon myself to add the link to the song. I hope you enjoy it.
