The Side Hustle with Pedro Avalos of Bobblehead Addicts

BobbleCon is a family affair for Pedro and Sara whose kids take part in the fun, which encourages other bobblehead fanatics to bring their little ones too.

Pedro Avalos is a native of the Los Angeles area, but he fell in love with Akron when he visited with his wife, Sara, who was raised here. They have four kids, including a couple of adorable twin girls, and full lives, including his full-time day job, but Pedro has a side hustle that fills up every waking moment: Bobblehead Addicts.

Hiccups was the first bobblehead Pedro made but he was just getting started.

Partnering with the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame, he makes merchandise and custom bobbleheads of Super Fans, like Hiccups the Clown, the LA Dodgers fan who feeds the homeless on LA’s Skid Row and advocates for families whose children are battling cancer. A couple times a year, he organizes BubbleCon so some of the 6,100+ members of his buy/sell/trade group can gather in person to swap collectible bobbleheads. This, Pedro says, is what he wants to do 24/7 from right here in Akron, Ohio. Join us as he explains what got him started and the advice he has for others trying to turn their side hustle into their full-time gig.

While we credit artists and musicians with shaping the culture of our community, small business owners and local entrepreneurs often get overlooked even though their contributions and creativity are just as vital. Here, we try to correct that by telling stories of their work.
