Madeleine, the assistant editor at Vogue with a burgeoning coke problem.

Madeleine is running late. She woke up this morning feeling like shit after a late night out with Shane and Ivy at 1 OAK, where she had 5 vodka sodas and did a bunch of bumps of cocaine off her mail key. Lately, it’s been hard to balance her social life hanging out in downtown Manhattan and the drudgery of requesting summer blazers for photoshoots all day. These are the mornings where she goes with all black (simple), throws her wet hair in a top knot (easy), and hopes her boss Elizabeth doesn’t say anything passive aggressive (bitch). Since she got a promotion from editorial assistant to assistant editor 3 months ago, virtually nothing about her day-to-day has changed. But trust me, she tells her parents, the title change is a BIG DEAL at the office. Madeleine’s noticed that Elizabeth has been giving her more compliments on her outfits, but we all know what that really means. A compliment at Vogue is about as offensive as a “fuck you.” It’s when no one says anything about your outfit, when it’s so fierce it inspires shock, awe and silence — that’s when you’ve really done good. Sadly, today is not that day. Before Madeleine even gets to her desk, Elizabeth says “cute necklace” in the elevator.
