Maura, the Brooklyn babysitter/ dream pop singer.

BLOUSE

When Maura first started babysitting for Christian and Kelly, she couldn’t believe how they’d treat their expensive belongings. All of Kelly’s clothes, for example, were from high-end boutiques, but she’d leave them crumpled on the floor for days or impulsively toss them in the trash because of one small marinara sauce stain. Kelly gave Maura this silk blouse because too many buttons fell off and she just “couldn’t deal.”

JORTS

Jorts are Maura’s preferred summer staple. They allow her to play freely with Duncan at Prospect Park, but also transition well for post-work beers because of how good they make her ass look.

GLASSES

Maura’s father Maury is an optometrist in Chicago. This always embarrassed her growing up because she thought it was the lamest job ever (she was also teased for her bad vision during elementary school). Now, she feels lucky because she gets 75 percent off on frames.

BELT

Maura got this belt that last time The Sappies were on tour in Austin. She hooked up with a girl named Sally that lived at the DIY venue they were playing at. They “slept” in the van that night to get some privacy and Sally forgot her belt. There was no way to return it because Maura didn’t get her number.

SHOES

Maura’s mom bought her these for her birthday last time she was in town. It scared her to think about how she was still asking her mother for Vans; that not much had changed since she was a fifteen-year-old girl cruising the mall in Highland Park.

NECKLACE

Maura’s high school boyfriend Teddy gave her this broken pocket watch (it was his grandfather’s) right before they both left for college. It was inside an envelope that also included a mix cd and a little pencil drawing of a sad monster saying “DON’T GO.”
