Work days are long but sometimes with the right people, it can go by a little faster.

  1. No one complains that your lunch smells. Everyone’s lunch smells. Bonus points if you’ve packed it in a reusable container.
  2. We all know boba is better than Starbucks. Obviously.
  3. No one is yelling — that’s just their normal speaking voice.
  4. No one asks where you’re from. And you don’t have to passive aggressively say you’re American, or anything at all.
  5. There’s always someone working really early or really late, so you almost never need a key. Unless you’re getting lunch, but in San Francisco that’s super spendy.
  6. There might be inter-office drama, but if anyone outside the office messes with us, we’ll fight you. Half of our staff are lawyers.
  7. Everyone comes from a family of immigrants. Immigration is beautiful. We sometimes spend our lunch hour protesting for it.
  8. Everyone is committed to fighting the current president’s policies. No one has to explain why.
  9. We can complain about complex social constructs in shorthand and be immediately understood, supported, even hugged. Battle fatigue is real.
  10. There is no diversity committee, and no tokens. We’re all family, and joined in this fight to help our most vulnerable communities.
  11. There’s ALWAYS food in the kitchen. Our clients say thank you with dim sum, biryani, fruit and sponge cakes. Because social justice work is hard, and sometimes we need to carbo load.
  12. Everyone’s seen Black Panther. We love it.

P.S. We’re hiring.

This is me sitting at my desk looking really dorky. Enjoy.
