Alchemy Publications Invites You to Join Draft Day 2025
Save the date: Medium Draft day, April 25
When discussing drafts, I always think of a famous Hemingway quote about how the first version of a story is usually pretty awful.
Honestly, I’m nothing like the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, who could write a masterpiece with no amendments while standing next to a counter.
As a Virgo, writing is a painstaking process.
Everything I write is always open for edits. Every time I read what I have written, I want to go back and change it.
My writing process
My first draft is something I usually write for myself.
I sit down and write to find meaning in the legion roaring inside me.
So I start by telling myself the story.
Then, I go back to it again and again until it’s finally enough, and I have to let it go.
Most of the time, I can’t get past the editing stage, and my draft gets buried under a pile of hundreds of other texts, as my thoughts drift to a new subject.
Often, I end up tossing most of what I write.
Why I’m joining Medium Draft Day
I see Medium Draft day as an opportunity to go back to those story remnants I have forgotten all about.
This way, maybe I can instill new life into what was put on hold with no release date.
Last year, hundreds of Medium authors participated in this event. Now, on April 25, Medium is hosting (Finish Your) Draft Day.
Medium’s VP of Content, , reached out to our editorial team here at Alchemy Publications, inviting us to pitch in and help amplify this great initiative aiming at “encouraging writers to pick up the drafts they’ve been sitting on and finally punch that publish button.”
Alchemy Publications was created to inspire writers to get going and write. Every day, we work with new and seasoned writers on Medium to help their stories reach their full potential.
In our editorial collective, we make sure no story gets left behind.

How can you participate?
Medium invites you to join us for this Medium event.
1. Check out our all-day Writing Room on Zoom on April 25th, from 9 AM to 7 PM ET, and register to join.
2. Choose a story in your Drafts folder you’d like to finish up (on Medium: https://medium.com/me/stories/drafts) or start a new one at story.new.
3. Polish it up and hit publish. Use the topic “Draft Day 2025” when you post!
