This book has changed my life. Being the book mostly “without pictures”, it’s one of the best paleontology book I’ve read. John Pickrell’s writing style is incredible and you don’t need a background in paleontology to clearly understand all the facts and researches around the origin of birds and behavior and life of dinosaurs. After reading you’ll get such a clear understanding of the history of the evolution debate, all the different views on the origin of birds, you’ll be up-to-date with the latest researches in China.

It was… with genuine surprise that I read the book in your hands, because I was impressed by how many exciting discoveries have been made in the last decade or so, and how much we have learned about the biology of dinosaurs. One area in particular — the origin and diversification of birds — has seen an astounding turnover of productive discovery and research … Thoroughly researched, with new interviews, this is one of the best dinosaur books that has appeared in years.
