Our portfolio company Luminate just announced their Series A, led by USVP and we are announcing our seed investment in the company, from early 2017.

Luminate has quickly grown from three founders (Ofer Smadari, Leonid Belkind, and Eldad Livni) and a slide deck to a business closing 6-figure deals with public companies. Now that they have exited stealth mode, it’s a good time to talk about what they are building and why it’s important.

Luminate’s Secure Access Cloud is the best way to grant access to corporate applications.

The enterprise network has been traditionally accessed through a cocktail of firewalls and VPN boxes. It’s a system that does not lend itself well to control, visibility, and security. For example –granting user access to a single application often comes with access to that application’s associated corporate network too. Another example — in many cases, homegrown and on-premise applications can only be accessed in certain locations.

When we consider the state of modern enterprises — a bad situation has gotten worse. With a combination of public cloud, private cloud, VMs, bare metal, and other infrastructure solutions, corporate networks have grown increasingly fragmented and difficult to manage. CTOs and CISOs are feeling the pain and the legacy solutions are even more mismatched.

Leonid, Ofer and Eldad - Luminate Founders

Users in modern organizations need to access any application from any device in any location, regardless of the underlying infrastructure. Businesses need to grant granular access to specific applications, with specific times and circumstances, to both internal users and third parties. They need automation and rules engines to enforce policy, improve performance and experience, and catch bad actors. And they need to decouple application access from network access, to better protect their internal resources.

This is exactly what Luminate does, with a SaaS solution that can be set up in minutes. Inspired by Zero Trust architecture and the BeyondCorp approach, Luminate provides application-level access of authorized personnel to corporate resources. The applications can be hosted on any type of data center, on-premise or cloud-based, and the solution gives unparalleled visibility into and control over each action that the accessing party performs.

It’s a better and safer infrastructure for businesses to manage, deliver, and secure the access to their applications. That’s why both Fortune 500 CTOs/CISOs and leading security startups are working closely with Luminate, to move their application infrastructure over to the Luminate platform.

We are excited to support them in the next leg of the journey.
