Report from the Local Government Authority.

Following the report of an outbreak of measles in Lagos Mainland Local Government, members of the public residing in the local government are enjoined to participate in the measles immunization exercise taking place in Okobaba community which commences today.

Measles is a highly contagious, serious disease. The disease remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally. Measles can be prevented with MMR vaccine. Parents are advised to take their kids for vaccination to prevent the disease.

Children aged 9 months through 12 years are eligible for measles vaccination. The vaccine is very safe and effective. Two doses of MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles; one dose is about 93% effective.
