Why I am Choosing to Have a Separate Work Phone & Personal Phone

5 min readJun 11, 2022

Let me first begin by acknowledging that this is something very strange to talk about and I am privileged to be able to do this for myself. Some people do not have one phone, let alone two…

Ultimately, I decided to write about this topic because we live in a world where it is extremely difficult to separate the different aspects of our lives.

Right now, we can do everything in our lives from a single device… Schedule appointments, listen to music, text your family, respond to emails, and watch a movie, it is all done through your phone.

This blurring of boundaries is something we should all acknowledge and work on ways to find a better balance.

Why Most People Have Separate Work & Personal Phones

Often, when you hear about someone carrying around two phones, it is because the organization they work for has forced them to do so. It could be for security, liability, IP control, or any number of other reasons.

Whatever the reason, you will often see this as a policy at larger companies.

Funnily enough, this is frequently a source of frustration for the employees who are forced into having such a setup.
