Worshipping the Tainted goddess . . .

(Breaking the Pillar of Silence after a Year+)

‘I don’t know and I don’t need to know, so don’t bother telling me’ — is a common refrain from me nowadays whenever I am asked whether I’ve seen the latest online diatribe against me or any of those whom I love in the magical world.

I’ve grown accustomed to the freedom that the blissful ignorance of such jabs brings and the power it gives in refusing to engage with social media keyboard warriors.

Nonetheless, at the encouragement of a confidante, I broke my own rules on a recent occasion and visited a certain blog. The then newest post had already been up for nearly a month. For once, it wasn’t about me or anyone in my immediate circle. Rather, it was about one of our detractors.

One could be forgiven for thinking I would be filled with glee to discover that the harpoons were now aimed at a nemesis who plays the serial victim and is adept at issuing red-herrings to divert attention away from some ugly truths I uncovered about her. It’s called deflection, and she is a master of it.

If I had to rank-order these truths, one vying for top place would be her claim about herself that ‘they worship me’, and its ripple-effect on her devoted fan base. Long before any conversations ever occurred between us, I heard tales of her making this claim and put them down to jest and exaggeration, for who could possibly be so deluded.

I seized the opportunity therefore, in one of our lengthy discussions to bring it up — half-jokingly of course, anticipating the response would be one of mature disregard with laughter. It was the complete opposite. ‘Oh they do, they worship me’ she confirmed in unmitigated seriousness, referring in particular to the Brazilians.

The truly distressing aspect of our conversations, however, was the ease with which she expressed her down-the-nose disdain towards her devoted followers — including the father of her child; the initiate besotted with her; the tarot deck artist and accomplished actress . . . it didn’t matter who it was— snorts, grunts and disparaging comments followed.

So, I should not have been surprised when she finally got round to asking what she’d clearly been grooming me for all along — her being re-initiated in order to legitimise her dodgy or non-existent Alexandrian Craft lineage.

Yet, I was. Stunned, in fact. And disgusted.

That she could so easily kick to the curb her downlines by saving herself from the supposed horrors of a questionable lineage was bewidering. I wondered what kind of message this would send to her fan base and how she would explain to her self-described ‘hundreds and hundreds’ of descendants that they’d been living a lie all along; that she now wanted to hightail it outta Dodge or, in her words: ‘be shot of’ her actual lineage — leaving the rest of her minion lot to dwell in their shiny, newly-confirmed illegitimacy; as tellingly, there was no mention, thought, or care about what impact her actions might have on her progeny and their issue.

Zero.

Now I faced a dilemma. I had just returned from giving a talk in Brazil based on ‘Abuses in the Craft’ and had discussed how one form of abuse is the corrupted art of ‘fascination’, known to some as ‘enchantment’ or ‘glamouring’.

There were people in that talk who had suffered horrific abuses of various kinds, usually at the hands of deceitful and popular individuals who use some form of fascination coupled with their widespread popularity to prevent anyone from speaking against them.

I likened my newfound awareness of this particular enchantress, who is worshipped in some quarters to the point of goddess-hood, to the doctrine of ‘unclean hands’.

This is a legal concept which basically precludes those who seek equitable relief or justice for some wrong, yet are sullied themselves, from getting what they want. Here was someone with a hidden agenda coming to our Coven, and indirectly— to Maxine Sanders, our Coven’s guide and teacher, to surreptitiously legitimise her blanket deceit.

Then came a vehicle by which the whole issue might be resolved whilst at the same time putting to bed the decades-old question about the validity of those downlines. She messaged me seeking confirmation whether Maxine’s position was that ‘post 73 and their downlines are not Alexandrian’.

Given this question pertained to many, it was felt this would be an opportunity for Maxine to present her views directly in an article with the intention of finally putting this question to rest.

Her response was venomous and personal. Apparently, it was not the answer she was looking for. Had our short email exchange been left private, however, that would have been the end of the matter — just another fall-out amongst a few occultists. Sadly, it was not, and word of the retaliatory disparagements she was putting ‘round about Maxine and myself, came full circle to my ears.

Enough was enough. By this stage, the climate of antagonism being directed at Maxine, me and our inner circle was at fever point. The decision was made to publish the response she had refused to share with her downlines.

Utilising the very fan base she had been prepared to turn her back on, she set in motion an onslaught against me — batting eyelashes, shedding ‘bewildered’ tears, and playing the victim. The telephone calls that came in as matters unfolded online revealed her panic about ‘what this was going to do’ to her downlines — her carefully constructed house of cards was about to fall.

The actress went into damage-limitation overdrive by harnessing the kingpin of the Brazilian wiccan community to do her bidding in a spectacular display of online bullying worthy of its own chapter on ‘Abuse in the Craft’. Without knowing the full circumstances, he and his masses blindly followed their leader and genuflected before their tainted goddess in dutiful worship.

This is when, by my comments alluding to my being able to back-up my claims, the goddess went into meltdown. Backed into a corner by the truth of the circumstances, the only option was to distract and depart, or, in other words: ‘Flounce and Renounce’.

Secrecy and confidentiality go hand in hand amongst the Brother and Sisterhood of the Craft, and at the time, there were some who criticised my having supposedly broken this unwritten code by ‘going public’ about the goddess’s request for re-initiation.

To which I heartily say: ‘Guilty as Charged’ — with no regrets, or ‘Not Guilty’ — on the grounds that exposure of a fraud outweighs compliance with a corrupted obligation.

To be fair though, at first I did weigh up whether to succumb to the false joys of our mutual egos by playing into her deceit — the price of which would have been my integrity for being complicit in throwing her downlines under the bus; or to withstand a sea of backlash that I knew would come from slaughtering a Sacred Cow.

Moo.

After over a year of silence on the matter and despite repeated requests for my side of the story, I’ve finally revealed it, and can now focus on the main theme of my blog — which is the pursuit of historical accuracy in the Alexandrian Tradition of Witchcraft . . .
