Over the recent years, women have been made to think that they can only be strong if they give up their own ambitions and personal happiness in order to make others happy. Indian traditions such as sati, child marriages, and mistreatment of widows were believed to be signs of power possessed by a woman. Even today, people from all around the world still imagine that for a woman to be classified as strong, she has to suffer silently with a smile on her face.

This, however, is not true. According to Tarannum Shaikh’s article below, mental strength lies in protecting one’s dreams, speaking out for oneself, and not just suffering through everything with stoic silence.
