One weekend every February, the island nation of Grenada holds a race for its working boats — small, local fishing craft. The teams gather on the beach at Grand Anse and race a triangular course that just skirts the city harbor at St. George. The Caribbean Sea at Grand Anse beach is a magical shade of turquoise, that very quickly gives way to a deep ultramarine blue. The atmosphere is festive, fans gather on the beach — mostly Grenadians. Soca music pumps out of the speakers, with the DJ giving update on the racing teams.
I thoroughly fell in love with Grenada during the months we lived there. This image reminds me of the deep pride Grenadians have in their culture, language, music, and food.
