ALFEW News, December 2021
Greetings and Salutations
Our first Newsletter!! We just wanted to take the opportunity to reach out to all our artists and followers and say “hello”, and thank everyone for their contributions since we started the ALFEW publication back in March 2019.
Progress
We started ALFEW here on Medium because I couldn’t find an actual publication here that hosted art — sculptures, drawings, paintings or even photography.
My bricks and mortar endeavour with ALFEW a few years ago, consisted of trying to find indie art friendly locations that would give us wall space for our art. That is a lot of work, and when my garden activities ramped up, I simply didn’t have time to try to find places to hang and organize shows and artists. ALFEW went into limbo. No one, including myself, had a place to hang. You can read about how we started here.
Then it occurred to me than perhaps “showing” online might be the answer. After finally finding a suitable Medium publication for my art in 2018, and subsequently finding that it simply disappeared, I got mobilized, and started ALFEW.
We have been showing a slow but sure upward trend over the past months, gaining a few new members every month. I am very happy with the artwork that has been submitted.
Publication Layout and Organization
I will readily admit that the layout and organization leaves much to be desired. I try to do small fixups when I have time, but setting up Publications on Medium is NOT for the faint of heart, nor for those lacking in time (and patience).
I hope to spend some time over the next few months making small improvements, your patience is greatly appreciated.
On to 2022
Don’t be shy, send us your photos, images of your paintings, sketches, sculptures — whatever type of art you are engaged in. We will welcome your work and will be happy to display it right here.
