This February my normal running trails had become too muddy to run. I set out into Boise National Forest to find drier (or snowier) footing. I found a trail at ~5000' elevation — Freddy’s Stack Rock Connector Trail. The surroundings were stunning — sunshine, piercing blue sky, crystalline white snow. The trail ran through black and ponderosa pines. The snow underfoot was nicely crunchy —runnable with snow spikes.

I took a photo of the stunning vista at a bend in the trail overlooking Daniel’s Creek. I returned to this trail many times this winter.

Over the past few months, I have been enjoying working with the Canson PrintMaking cotton rag paper in combination with Sennelier L’Ecu pastels. The paper is bright enough to bring out the colors vividly, yet the paper has enough tooth to bring out depth and textures.
