After working in developer relations for almost twenty years, most recently at Mozilla (WebAssembly, Rust, VR), I’m excited to be a part of the team at Algorand, an open source blockchain that strives to build a borderless economy by fulfilling the promise of blockchain technology.

One of the most unique aspects of Algorand is the potential that it brings. In recent travels, I have met a number of developers and businesses who realize that blockchain is not going away, but simultaneously struggle with next steps. The reason is that blockchain hasn’t reached a point where it can be relevant because the technology hasn’t been there. Furthermore, today’s platforms are difficult to understand, don’t deliver on what they promised, and lack a solid foundation. Algorand’s innovative protocol changes that with its ability to solve the ‘trilemma’ and advance the limits of blockchain by means of technological breakthrough.

Algorand is a one-of-a-kind a permissionless, pure proof-of-stake blockchain. We are able to process transactions very quickly, without the complicated power requirements of other networks. We also have a unique way of picking block proposers and selecting voting committees that ensure active processing of the blockchain. And, the way we are handling incentives is creative and will ensure plenty of network participation.

Encouraging participation and development is going to be my main focus at Algorand. I want to help create and grow a thriving developer ecosystem around the Algorand blockchain. For developers out there already working on blockchain, Algorand will be a new, exciting platform for you to build on top of. The Algorand blockchain can bridge legacy business processes to blockchain. On the other hand, if you’ve avoided working on blockchain so far because it’s complicated and difficult, Algorand helps ease that transition with simple APIs, forums, how-to videos, tutorials, and other resources for developers. Blockchain is where the future is headed, and we want developers to have the tools they need to be part of it.

Today I am excited to announce that we have launched our developer website! With documentation and APIs to provide deeper insight into what will be possible on Algorand, the site will soon have forums, how-to-videos, tutorials, details on the protocol and other resources for developers. Developers are what make open source projects truly succeed. We want to empower Algorand developers to build the next generations of applications.

We have experienced overwhelming interest in TestNet and are onboarding numerous people each day. We look forward to opening this up further. And looking even further ahead, we are really excited to launch MainNet later this year.

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to getting to know all the developers already working with Algorand and welcoming new faces to the Algorand community. Be sure to checkout developer.algorand.org and, to get even more involved, click here to participate in TestNet and be part of our blockchain platform before it launches. Stay tuned in the coming months for more Algorand news and exciting developments.
