Campaign to treat toddler hits $350k fundraising goal

Cancer treatment can be an expense that is out of the reach of most people in Mexico. Under these circumstances, crowdfunding could be an ideal option to raise funds from our own community, for medical attention, travel expenses and living costs that will need to be covered while the treatment is ongoing.

[Sep 2nd 2018] When 3-year-old Ismael was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer earlier this year, his parents visited numerous treatment centers in Mexico searching for the best and most accesible treatment for their child. After weeks of trying to find the perfect fit for Ismael, a friend recommended them to visit Fundación Castro-Limón, they family drove 4 hours the next day to Tijuana with to meet the foundation. As of today, Ismael is in the middle of his treatment, completely free of charge.

Fundación Castro-Limón is a non profit organization that procures funds to provide integral attention for children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer, through a team of highly specialized health professionals at the Pediatric Oncology Center (COP). The foundation is one of the leading hospitals in Mexico for children with cancer, in large part due to the generous donations from members of the community.

Last April the foundation joined forces with Alibre.io’s Koperacha mobile platform, for a three month crowdfunding campaign to collect the necessary funds for the treatment of Ismael and other children like him, diagnosed with Cancer. More than a 1,000 people responded to the campaign pro actively and over $350,000 pesos where collected, from a $300,000 pesos goal, helping the foundation and Ismael with the necessary funds for his treatment and others like him.
