Employing the Art of Tease, Because It’s a Clever Marketing Strategy
Peekaboo - they needn’t take long to write!
The Oxford Dictionary defines ‘Teaser’ this way:
A short introductory advertisement for a product that stimulates interest by remaining cryptic
And that makes sense: in order to tease a person to want something, you wouldn’t give the entire thing away ahead of time. You get better results by ‘flirting’ with your audience, bragging about the product, describing and whetting their appetite so that they become keen to learn more/ see more/ try the product for themselves.
That’s the idea behind Teaser Tales: to draw attention to an already-published story or book with a peekaboo marketing style. But recently some contributors have found another clever way to utilize a Teaser.
I think Ann James was the first: She wrote a flash fiction (which is great, we specify Teasers should be 200–700 words) in response to a prompt by Marie A. Rebelle, and tagged the prompt story as her link at the bottom.
