You may be cheating your writer friends out of pennies
I use to love getting my coffee, opening the laptop, selecting a Medium story, closing my eyes and listening to it. I have a three rule minimum- read/listen to three stories before I check my notifications and pay out status. I’ve been doing that since 2021.
I decided to be selfish this morning and went straight to Earnings Summary — hopes dashed — I didn’t come close to the breakeven point of $4.17 this month. I wanted to see what I earned last February but the new drop down menu only goes back ten months.
To the Help Center I went to see how I can look at all my earnings by month so I could compare year to year. I did not find an answer.
What I found instead was this: How listening time is calculated.
We calculate earnings from listen time the same way that we calculate earnings from read time. Earnings from listen time are automatically incorporated into your earnings and will be represented as part of “Member reading time” on your stats detail page. However, since we can’t account for pauses…
