Medium Superstar Writes Nonsense: I Don’t Understand It!
Why is this stuff so popular?
There’s a writer who appears on my Medium recommendations daily. I have only engaged with this writer once, on another account (not this one), but she still appears in my recommendations all the time. Her articles have so many comments, that Medium assumes this is a sign of quality and is circulating her stuff widely.
One of her pieces has 10k claps and it’s been in my feed all week. It has over 250 comments and has been stuck in my recommendations for days.
I was curious. Something seemed off. I suspected it was a bot, with other bots, all clapping bots and commenting on each other’s stories. Medium is supposed to be keeping AI content out of our recommended feeds. So I was thinking of reporting it.
I hopped over to my free account to take a look — after all I don’t wish to pay bot accounts for my reading time. And I might report the account if it’s AI generated content.
Anyway, it was awful. The writing I mean. It wasn’t good enough to be written by a bot. It made no sense. Bots write better articles than this. Seriously.
So, why so popular? I remained both curious and confused.
