My Advice to Medium Members is to Stop Giving Writers Advice

Which of these groups of writers give the worst advice?

In case you’re thinking the title of this story sounds a bit contradictory, it’s not.

I specifically wrote it that way, to inject a bit of sarcasm, especially since the following paragraphs literally amount to giving advice.

Just like everything else we find online and on the Medium website, we have to learn to recognize when there’s personal value in what we read and decide to follow.

This is especially true for new writers who join the community.

New members in particular, have to learn to be discerning, because if you don’t, everything you read will seem like something you’re supposed to be imitating.

Trust me — it’s not.

There’s literally no end to stories on this platform, when it comes to giving writing advice and tips about succeeding on Medium.

Not only do the oldest members in the community do it, but even the newest writers come aboard, offering what they believe is useful advice.

Sad to say, both groups (old and new) are often guilty of sharing misleading information.
