November Review: Stats, Earnings, Conclusions
Shortform experiments, read ratios, audience building
Iāve decided to do monthly earning reviews to see how things are going for the effort put in. This report looks at how things went in November.
Reads were down a little this month at 4.7 compared to 5k last month. Earnings were down too, by about $150.
I published 46 stories in October compared to 45 in November, so publishing frequency was similar, but I almost gave up on boost in November and focused instead, on publishing shorter stories that are easier to write and swallow up less time.
My one boostable story was among my lowest earners, and thatās why Iāve given up on it. This is a common pattern. But it also meant I didnāt achieve a boost last month, so I didnāt get the coveting pay increase or the high exposure on any one story. The result? Iām $150 down. But Iām also less pissed off by low returns because itās been a more enjoyable experience. And itās less time consuming. I consider that a win.
I was also away for a week and when youāre not at your desk reading and engaging, sometimes people forget you exist. But then, I did also have some of my best performing stories in the first part of the week while I was away.
