The best way to become profitable as a writer is an interesting debate. After all, the opportunities are endless, both on Medium and with external publications.

Which path offers the best return?

Understanding the Marketplace

Who knew 20 years ago how rapidly digital publications and self-publishing efforts would change the print market? Or the sudden impact of AI on today’s content development?

Regardless of how much has changed over the years, the competition will only increase as more and more creators seek opportunities to make money, improve their name recognition, and establish a work life divorced from the nine-to-five grind.

You can create your own library of publication data, but you may quickly find (like I did) that the upkeep is futile. Not only does it require research of new publications, but you also have to stay on the lookout for new markets as well as any changes or requests. Services like Worldwide Freelance and Write Jobs PLUS+ are great resources, but full access is not free.

The good news? Earning money doing something you enjoy is no longer a pipe dream. But with this adventure comes…
