What is the Measure of a Man’s Manuscript … on Medium?
I’m microscopic on Medium. Is that fair?
I’ve done the math and I’m short several thousand bucks … and a hearty helping of height.
I’ll explain.
After 5 years on the platform and 1,267 stories published, 7 of them have performed well. That’s a real testament to some crappy writing.
But, more to the point, Medium saw fit to celebrate my crappy writing by giving 6 of the 7 good performers the goose. This startled the dirty half dozen, causing them to jump upwards, perhaps in search of an escape from the goosing. The goose also resulted in the torture of thousands of unsuspecting Medium members who found these stories in their inboxes (pardon the porn) when they otherwise wouldn’t have known I existed.
And, because these stories got goosed, or is it goosted?, I got paid, handsomely. That is if you consider a 3-on-a-10 scale to be handsome.
But, let’s not quibble. Besides, the 3-on-a-10 scale has a great personality, impeccable grooming, loves dogs, and once cleaned the kitchen without being asked. Well, he unloaded the dishes from the dishwasher onto the counter, but still.
