Why I’m Not Writing on Medium This Week
Although I’m still here to read YOUR work.
Medium has stopped paying writers more than a tiny little percentage of what it was previously paying them.
Nobody knows why.
Nor do we know whether this super ultra crazy low payment scale is temporary or permanent.
Here’s what Coach Tony has to say about The Great Medium Earnings Crash of 2025:
We have continued to pay at the same rate we were paying (despite what some people are saying.)
I can’t square that statement with the reality I am experiencing and I’m tired of trying.
I’m sure it makes sense to Coach Tony, perhaps as part of a bigger picture that we’re all unaware of. But explaining Medium’s New Reality with crystal clarity to the Medium Writers who are howling with pain about our earnings suddenly going off a cliff apparently wasn’t on his To Do List this week.
Maybe that’ll change.
Maybe it won’t.
He isn’t obligated to tell us anything.
This is Medium’s sandbox.
We’re just playing here.
If we don’t like it, we can, to mix a metaphor, pick up our marbles and go home.

I don’t want to go to Substack.
I love it here. This is a great place. I’ve had six terrific years writing on this platform.
I’m not going anywhere.
But I do like getting paid a reasonable amount of money for my work, so I’m taking a break from writing on Medium until whatever this is gets fixed.
I’ll be taking care of my favorite baby girl and playing Beethoven Sonatas instead.
Nobody pays me for doing that but I don’t expect them to.
