Why I’m Writing on Medium Again After More Than Three Months

Is it desperation, stupidity, or both?

My mom always said I was a glutton for punishment. She was probably right, at least when it comes to writing on Medium, because here I am again after a three-month hiatus.

Medium has undergone a myriad of changes since I started writing here more than three and a half years ago. And what I think of those changes is completely irrelevant. But if you are wondering, I really don’t care for any of the changes, and that’s putting it nicely.

Reduction of distribution is one of the most significant changes I have seen at Medium and one of the most impactful. The last story I published was a flop, likely in part due to minimal distribution.

If a story is published and no one sees it, does it make money? No, it does not.

So, no readers and no money. Nothing other than nearly free content for Medium and another swift kick to what would be my cajones if I had any.

Following this most recent flop, I decided to take a break and figure out my next step. And I have been super busy.

To write on Medium or not to write, that was the question.
