The White Helmets
“White Helmets” is a group of ordinary civilians of Syria who volunteer to do an extraordinary job of saving and rescuing people all over the nation from the bombings. Also known as the Syrian Civil Defense group was formed in 2013 in Aleppo, the city where the major crisis broke.
This includes men and women from previous jobs as bakers, builders, tailors, teachers and people from other ordinary jobs. Some of them have held arms with ISIS, Regime or the Free Syrian Army formerly but knowing civilians are becoming victims left their fighting groups and joined hands to save lives instead.
White helmets say their weapons are the first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and of course their white helmets.
More than 3000 volunteers work for this organisation risking their lives every day at work for the humanity. They have saved over 85,000 lives of civilians. They claim to save people from the bombings irrespective of whose side the victims are on.
Their job includes urban rescuing and first aid, evacuation, community awareness and educating the locals on how to stay safe. Volunteers from over 130 centers visit Turkey for a month long professional rescuing training program as most of them have no prior rescuing experience.
Over 166 white helmets have lost their lives during their time working at the ground zero.
Mostly funded from the charities and donation, white helmets have turned out to be angels for the people caught in the cross fire of the regime and the rebels and each of their alliances.
On one side of the Syrian Civil war we have Assad’s regime, Free Syrian Army, ISIS, the Russian and the Americans using lethal weapons and making blood baths all over the nation, we also have the White Helmets on the other side saving lives and doing humanitarian work.
Their motto stands, “To save a life is to save all of humanity”.
