so much easier to just be a taker, not a maker

160309 All-Day Breakfast—so much easier to just be a taker, not a maker—#146

Why do some of us feel compelled to create things?

I ask myself this question often. It would be so much easier to just be a taker, not a maker—to be a consumer, not a creator.

And yet—here I am trying to describe the emotions of looking up at a non-conformist piece of architecture like this building at OCAD University and wondering what confluence of persistence and compromise made it actually happen?

Success has so much to do with right place, right time—but also preparedness—“Chance favours the prepared mind,” said Louis Pasteur.

Just keep at it. Every day. Raw or polished. Whatever you can muster. It’s important.

I’m excited by anyone who commits to this madness. It’s easy to think of it as preparation for something bigger, but really it’s preparation for your own evolution.

Keep making, keep changing, keep creating! It may not always change the world, but it will always change your world.

Never underestimate your own ability to be cheesy. Although this borders on Hallmark™ territory, it’s still true. Make shit. Now. Seriously.
