The 80s started pretty well for fans of Heavy Metal. The genre was still crawling some years before but exploded in the decade of 1980. In this year, many bands released their successful albums and these albums contained songs that would become symbols of Heavy Metal. Songs that would carry the flag of the music style and be well known among fans of heavy rock.

Some of these bands had traveled a long way before 1980, such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, and Motörhead. In the case of Black Sabbath and AC/DC, they were undergoing major changes as their lead singers were gone. Sabbath lost Ozzy and AC/DC lost Bon Scott, forever. What happened to Black Sabbath was not as tragic as to what happened to AC/DC, but both bands made great albums in 1980 within situations of major change.

With Ronnie James Dio as the new lead singer, Black Sabbath released Heaven & Hell and AC/DC released Back in Black with Brian Johnson on the vocals. Both albums were released in 1980 and Back in Black went to become one of the most well-sold albums of the music industry history. Both albums had songs that would become classics for both bands such as Heaven & Hell and Back In Black, for Black Sabbath and AC/DC, respectively.
