The Best Breakfast Sandwich Ever
And at $14, possibly the most expensive? …
If you’re a “hipster” or a “foodie” living in Hollywood, CA you might not think twice about paying $14 for a breakfast sandwich! Many people would say, “That's crazy” or “I’d never do that”, but they’d be missing out.
When I lived in Los Angeles, this delicious slice of heaven was almost on my doorstep. The “Italian Breakfast Sandwich”, the best of seven dishes on the breakfast menu at The Oaks Gourmet Market & Cafe, didn’t cost $14, but at a price north of $10, it still wasn’t something I could eat every day.
What makes the “Italian Breakfast Sandwich” so special? Well, it could be the perfectly fried eggs or the crispy pancetta. Maybe the delicious fresh mozzarella, which I think was burrata?
(You’d have to ask an Angeleno if I’m remembering correctly).
I think it was that the ingredients combined to create the perfect marriage of taste; oozing egg yolk, creamy mozzarella, perfectly salted pancetta and bright fresh basil, all on toasted ciabatta.
The perfect pairing for this sandwich was always an exquisite cappuccino or latte made from the shop’s espresso beans. Beans that are roasted in-house.
