How We Got Here
And there’s no ‘H’ in Jon
During a recent engagement dinner party atop Terra Plata it was proposed to Natasha and myself to initiate our own blog. Talking to friends about our latest hike and how we barely escaped with our lives we were encouraged to start writing about our camping trips, hikes and travels in a way that a non-REI sponsored adventurer can relate. A down-home boy from Virginia and a city-gal from Chicago meeting in the Pacific Northwest and diving blindly into all that our area offers us (skiing aside) has given us, and our family and friends, story after story of what we did, where we went, what we saw and what we should have done differently. Our hope is that we will now have a place where we can both reflect on these experiences, likely from pretty different perspectives; mine being more about the beauty in what is around us and full of encouragement and simple joy while Natasha is coming from a place with a few more expletives, a perpetual state of both being soul-crushingly terrified that bears are around every corner and yet thinking she could walk alongside one for the duration of our journey. We have lots to share and hopefully we can inspire some “I’m not outdoorsy” people along the way.
