Manchester United started off the season seemingly inept, and although they are now limping towards better days, their spending spree continues. After a slew of transfer rumors that permeated headlines out of pure panic, such as Adrien Rabiot, Frenkie de Jong, and Marko Arnautović to name a few, Manchester United have finally followed through with a major signing. There is the obvious propensity to declare this deal a result of the “Brazilian tax” that became prevalent after Neymar Jr’s record-breaking fee with PSG, but many are optimistic about the strong connection that United boss Erik ten Hag and Antony had at Ajax. Eredivisie stars like Hakim Ziyech and Steven Bergwijn have not seen much success after the transition to the British top-flight, but both have struggled to receive playing time during their tenures. With a €100m price tag, and a weak United side, Antony should expect heavy preference and pressure.
