Pete Carroll has made it clear that Geno Smith will start the season premiere against Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos over Drew Lock. This comes soon after the head coach’s bizarre recent interview, where he exclaimed that he believed that both Smith and Lock were potential “number one QBs”, but clearly has committed to Smith for the time being. Lock was unfortunately at a disadvantage after coming down with COVID-19, but Carroll claims that Smith earned the role nonetheless. Smith has not started more than 3 games in a single season since 2014, so it’ll be interesting to see if 2022 will change that lengthy streak.
