In 2016 we did see Containers adoption increase across lot of companies, with that continued momentum I see the below things happen in 2017.

Rise of managed Docker Clouds

Managed Docker Clouds like Amazon EC2 Container Service, and Automated Container Management on Google Cloud Platform adoption will continue to rise to be more managed with end to end cluster management and orchestration solutions. Sure, you can use open source Docker cluster management solutions of Apache Mesos and Kubernetes, however there is lot of time and energy that is being spent managing Docker Clusters and as more more workloads become dockerized the main of managing these clusters increases as well.

ServerLess on Containers

As more and more workload move towards ServerLess, I expect the more and more platforms come out next year which will enable running ServerLess application to be run on Container clusters.

Rise of Security solutions for Containers

Security for containers is one of the key areas of concern and I expect lot of security solutions come out next year to solve these concerns. Security vulnerabilities, network security and signing of the images are some of the key areas where I expect tools to evolve next year.

Open Source Container Cluster War

I expect Kubernetes to be clear winner next year among the 3 open source (Kubernetes, Mesos and Docker Swarm) container cluster managements solutions
